# Experimental Shorts

## Database Criteria

Experimental Shorts can be added to the website if it meets all the following criteria:

* Its creator has worked on professionally produced anime.  
* It meets the Japanese '[Country Of Origin](/submission-manual/submission-form/general/typings/country-of-origin.md)'.  
* The short is not based on existing published material (anime, manga, manhwa etc.) - it must be an *original* work.

Experimental Shorts created by a non-professional who later works on professionally produced anime may be retroactively added.

*Exceptions may be granted for student graduation projects from Japanese animation universities.*

## Examples

Example 1:

> [Rain Town](https://anilist.co/anime/10448/Rain-Town/) Is an experimental short by [Hiroyasu Ishida](https://anilist.co/staff/104852/Hiroyasu-Ishida). At the time of creation, he was an independent non-professional animator. As he has now worked on professionally produced works such as [Penguin Highway](https://anilist.co/anime/101249/Penguin-Highway/), this entry is acceptable.
